Our Shadow Woods community continues to mourn the loss of our beloved friend, Ann Everton of Darsombra. She died Friday, October 3, 2025, as a result of a vehicle crash in upstate New York while she and her partner and bandmate Brian Daniloski were traveling to their first fall tour date.
Ann’s sudden and tragic death has left Brian, her family, her friends, and the musical community across the world in a state of shock and bewilderment. How can we go on without her illuminating spirit, her radiant beauty—both inner and outer—her creative and wonderfully weird talent, her gentleness and kindness? Ann was fully present for every person she encountered and threw herself completely into everything she did. Any interaction with Ann left you feeling uplifted and smiling. Her light shone “brighter than a thousand suns,” as the Bhagavad Gita says—and now that light has gone out.
So what can we do to keep Ann’s memory alive? Perhaps Brian himself has given us a clue. He writes on his social media:
“I look forward to finally getting back home and starting the process of trying to rebuild a life without Ann. To say this ordeal has been harrowing would be a gross understatement, but life goes on, and Ann would want me to get back on the horse and keep on keeping on. I say ‘would’ instead of ‘would’ve’ because, although I’m a yoga teacher, I’m only so woo-woo—somehow I can feel her spirit urging me to cheer up and live life to the fullest while I can.”
Life without Ann will be different. Her strong presence will be missed at every future Shadow Woods event. Her laughter and goofiness will be missed at every social gathering where she should be. Now it falls to those who loved her to carry forward her work and ensure that her impact continues to resonate in our community.
In the future, our Shadow Woods community will hold a remembrance ritual to honor Ann. This will take place at the 2026 Campout Reunion. However, more pressing needs must be addressed.
